SEPTEMBER 2023
My family and I set out on a road trip through the Canadian Rockies. We had been to Banff many times but had yet to drive the Icefields Parkway all the way to Jasper. This time we were finally going to do it. We were intentional about making stops to enjoy various hikes and viewpoints along the way.
After fracturing my tibial plateau and tearing my ACL while skiing back in March 2023 I was finally about to get knee surgery in a week. I had a lot of limitations that made the various hikes on this trip a challenge. But I was determined to do what I WAS capable of and experience as much as possible regardless. I'm grateful that God made me a determined and ambitious person haha. It still brings me joy to reflect on the hikes I did to places like Peyto Lake, Grassi Lakes and Moose Lake. I thank God for his kindness in enabling me to make beautiful memories with my family and return home with a phone filled with tons of wonderful photos and painting inspiration.
JANUARY 2024
A few years ago I learnt about a life-changing principle: as we repeatedly step out of our comfort zone and do the things that scare us or that we don't feel confident in our ability to do, over time it becomes easier, we become more confident, we feel less scared...I have been working as an artist for about seven years and have spent a lot of time doubting my abilities. But at the beginning of this year I resolved to stop questioning myself and instead be confident in being the artist that God created me to be. I didn't want to play it small. So I went out and bought eight professional, gallery wrapped canvases of various sizes; I reached out to a talented family friend and asked if he would want to build custom frames for my paintings. I didn't rush through the process of painting; I gave myself a daily schedule to ensure I stayed focused on the collection but refrained from holding to it too tightly so I allowed myself the freedom for exploration and creativity.
AUGUST 2024
It's been seven months since this collection started taking shape. I really put my heart into making it the best it could be and I am truly proud of my hard work, dedication to the vision, and, now, bringing it to completion. As of August first, they have officially been released out into the world!!! I can't wait to see where they end up! These paintings are more than just pretty artwork though. Each one serves as an important reminder about the way we choose to live our lives. (I will share more about this in a later blog post. 😊)
